I’m not particularly fond of the Christmas season. It has become way too commercial for me. I also recognize that even when I focus on the Christmas event, I don’t marvel nearly as much as I should. I think about the baby in the manger. I also think about the announcement by Gabriel that Mary would have a baby without going through the normal process of impregnation. I even periodically reflect on God taking on human flesh. Lately, with all we are learning from the James Webb telescope, I am reminded of a Bruce Colburn song. The lyrics begin with the line “Lord of the Starfields”. They go on to refer to the “Universe Maker.” 200 billion galaxies, an observable universe that we can only predict to be at least 93 billion light years across. The gospel of John says “all things were created by him” in reference to the Logos, or Word. It becomes even more mind boggling to think about the “Word became flesh, and lived among us.” We call it incarnation. Theoretically, it is what we celebrate at Christmas. The link to this amazing event is below:
If you have gone to the first link I sent this week you might have been disappointed that it didn’t get to the actual nativity event. I forgot that I actually did two sessions on the incarnation. The first was on the annunciation. The second is on the actual birth of Jesus. Here is the link to session 2:
