Bagdad Cafe

Somewhere back in your youth you might have watched the movie Bagdad Café.  My memory of the film is that it was a bit off-beat.  Ironically, our stop today in The Road to Somewhere is in Bagdad, CA, where the movie was NOT shot.  Bagdad is actually a ghost town with the only feature of civilization remaining a graveyard that no one knows who is buried there.  The movie was shot down the road in Newberry Springs where some enterprising restaurateur changed the name of his restaurant to the Badgad Café!  Our stops in California are linked up with the General Epistles of the New Testament.   Today’s episode is connected to the book of James.  I made the same mistake twice in the video and said we were looking at Hebrews, which we did in our last episode.  James is a fascinating book that has been controversial through the history of the church.  Many believe it teaches salvation by works instead of grace.  Martin Luther once called it an “epistle of straw”.  At first it appears to stand in stark contrast with Paul’s letter to the Galatians and the theology of salvation through faith in Christ alone.  There is also the conflict about whether James was an actual physical brother of Jesus.  I’ll address all these conflicts in the teaching video.  The links to both the episode and the teaching video are below.
