When you imagine Jesus, what does he look like to you? Do you see him as a first century Jewish man of modest means dressed in first century workman’s clothing? This is how Jesus appeared during the time of his incarnation. But that is not what Jesus is like now. Other than John’s vision in Revelation, (which might be highly symbolic), the only time we get to see what Jesus is really like takes place during an event we will be looking at this week in The Story of Jesus. It takes place on a large hill ,which in Israel is called a mountain, (they never have seen the Rockies!) where Jesus is “transfigured” and the veil of his humanity is dropped. Three of his disciples see the “real” Jesus in his glory with his face as radiant as the sun and his clothing is blindingly white. We call the event the Transfiguration, and along with Peter’s confession, Session 20 will focus on this moment when men saw Jesus as he is. It should change the way we think about Jesus!
