On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. In the speech he quoted one of the Minor Prophets. He said, “Until justice rolls down like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream.” The quote is from the prophet Amos, who is the prophet we take a quick look at in this week’s episode of The Road to Somewhere. The text actually says, “Let justice roll down.” Amos might have been the first of the Minor Prophets chronologically. His message was to the northern kingdom of Israel. It was a call to seek God and deal with the immorality, idolatry, and injustice the Northern Kingdom was characterized by at the height of its prosperity. They didn’t listen. As a result, in 722 B.C. the Assyrian empire wiped them off the face of the earth. Amos is a book you need to understand. And in this episode you also get a little taste of the Rock Café on Route 66, home of Sally Carrera from CARS. The links to this week’s episode and the teaching video on Joel are below:
