The Road to Damascus – The Telos Project

There are a lot of great stories of men and women having significant experiences on the road. Jack Kerouac’s On the Road was a manifesto of the beat generation. Easy Rider was an attempt to capture the spirit of the 60’s. Ken Kesey and his psychedelic bus trip with his band of Merry Pranksters was captured by Tom Wolfe in his book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. My two novels, Somewhere Fastand The Road to Somewhere are filled with experiences the main characters have on the Mother Road: Route 66. But there is perhaps no more important story of a road trip than the one that appears in the ninth chapter of the book of Acts. This one takes place on the road to Damascus with a man named Saul. As a persecutor of the early believers he set out to seek out any Jesus followers in the city of Damascus to bring them back to Jerusalem to be tried for heresy. But God had other plans for this man. As he approached Damascus he was knocked to the ground by a force from heaven and a voice challenged him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” God was speaking. Saul asked the right question: “Who are you, Lord?” The response he received changed his life, and in many ways would change the world for almost two thousand years. This session of Acts tells the story of Saul’s (later to become known as Paul) experience. Here is the link to the teaching:
