On a number of occasions I’ve found myself either walking or driving up and down Rodeo Drive. In this episode of The Road to Somewhere, John and Joy drive from San Bernardino to Beverly Hills. Originally thinking they would shoot their video on Rodeo Drive, they decide it is all a little over the top for the video series. They head back east on Santa Monica Blvd. to the classic Beverly Hills sign in Beverly Gardens Park. Leaving this location they will be heading to their final stop on Route 66. We will travel with them in the next episode to the Santa Monica Pier. Two short books are attached to this stop. 2nd and 3rd John are each one chapter long. 2nd John is written to “the chosen lady and her children”. This is probably a metaphorical reference to a church and its members. My guess is the church in Ephesus, which has been John’s base of operations since the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD by the Roman Army. 3rd John is specifically written to a friend of John’s named Gaius. We don’t know which city he was in, but the church was having some trouble with an ego-centered leader named Diotrephes. John plans to visit and straighten him out. By the way, these three letters of John are the only place in the New Testament where the title “Antichrist” appears. We are almost to the end of our journey.
