Our stop today on The Road to Somewhere is Barstow, CA. When John and Joy pull into town it is 107 degrees. At times, the temp can get up to 120 degrees. Barstow sits 140 miles away from Los Angeles. In the older days of Route 66 it was a popular spot to stop for gas or a motel. There are over 20 motels on Route 66, which in Barstow becomes Main Street. Many of the motels have been renovated and would have provided a good background for John and Joy’s video. But Tom’s Mechanical Shop was better, due to the fact that Tom collected old gas station signs that were plastered all over the outside of his business. Peter’s first letter to the “scattered exiles” is attached to this stop. In our Bibles it is called I Peter. Simon was given the name Petra by Jesus. It means “rock”, or as I like to think of it: “Rocky”. It is one of two letters of Peter contained in the New Testament. It has been hotly debated whether Peter wrote the second one or not. I’ll talk about that at our next stop in Victorville, CA. The links to both today’s episode and the teaching video on I Peter are below.
