Peter and Paul

In Season Six, we have traveled with John and Joy from Texas into New Mexico on Rt. 66.  For their video, our guides on The Road to Somewhere have decided to travel from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, where the highway originally went before 1937.  In our last session I explained how I taught two sessions on Acts, due to the historical and theological importance of the book.  In today’s teaching video, we get a brief history of the spread of the early church from the Day of Pentecost till about 60 AD.  Two main characters are highlighted in these chapters.  Chapters 2 to 12 tell the story of Peter’s early ministry around Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria.  Beginning in Chapter 13 through the end of the book the focus is on the life work of Paul (whose earliest known picture is above) as he takes the good news about Jesus to much of the Roman Empire on three missionary journeys.  When we get into the rest of the New Testament, we will see how many of the letters that have become “books” in the New Testament were written during, and to, the churches started by the Apostles.  Thanks to Ames Fowler in Phoenix, and my son Baker for their work on this week’s session.  It’s great to have Baker back in action as he continues to recover from his horrible illness this summer.  I hope you will all join us as we are back on the road and working our way through the Book!
