You wouldn’t expect to find a piece of instruction from God like this in the Bible. God told Hosea, “Go marry a whore.” He then told Hosea that his wife was going to be unfaithful and end up either in prostitution or slavery. Under Jewish law, Gomer (the whore’s name) should have been stoned to death! Instead, God told Hosea to go redeem her; that is, buy her back. Hosea is the first of what we call the Minor Prophets, and the book I give a brief overview to in this week’s episode of The Road to Somewhere. We begin a new 5-week set of episodes this week. Our Route 66 stop is Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tulsa is one of the cities that claims to be the “Home of Route 66.” I explain why in the episode and go into more detail in the teaching video. This is a great week to get back in the groove and on with our journey down Route 66 and through the Bible. Just think…when we finish the Minor Prophets we head into the New Testament!
