Tomorrow night, our study of The Story of Jesus will focus on the baptism of Jesus. It is impossible to tell the story of his baptism without taking a good look at the baptizer: John the Baptist. If you remember the announcement to Zechariah in the Temple by the angel Gabriel, tomorrow night you will see Gabriel’s prophecy about John fulfilled. When Jesus shows up at the Jordan, John resists baptizing him for the repentance of sin, because Jesus was without sin. But Jesus convinces him that it is the right thing to do. Coming up out of the water, Jesus has a wild experience of the Father speaking from heaven and the Spirit manifesting as a dove and coming to rest on him.
