In our last session of our study of the book of Acts we looked at a meeting that changed the course of early church history. The meeting has become known as the Council of Jerusalem. In the book of Acts, the next chapter contains the details of the beginning of Paul’s second great adventure (commonly known as his 2nd missionary journey). But there is something that probably happened between the council and the journey. It is pretty simple. Paul wrote a letter. It was addressed to the churches in the region of Galatia. This was the area Paul traveled to on his first journey. Eventually, this letter came to be viewed as inspired and authoritative. Several hundred years later this letter became part of what we call the New Testament. Over the next years, Paul will write 12 more letters that are part of the New Testament. In the same way, Peter, John, James, and Jude all began writing letters to churches. These letters also became part of the New Testament.
